What does Sozo Grace mean?

Whole-Healing Grace

The word "sozo" is used in the New Testament of the Bible 101 times.  Like many words, it  has several meanings.  They all  center around healing - to make well, heal, restore to health.

I fell in love with this word in the Gospel of Mark. Jesus is walking through a crowd  of people and a woman reached out to touch his robes.  She knew that all she had to do was reach out and  and she would be healed from a flow of blood that had lasted over 12 years. She had faith in the one person she believed she could touch and and he would heal her in the place that hurt the most. So she does, even though it is a risky move.

But she wasn't able to simply touch his robe and slip quietly back into the crowd.  Jesus felt her touch. He stopped, turned, and asked who had reached out to him. After being told by his disciples that it was her, Jesus said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction."    - Mark 5:34

I love that he called her daughter, reminding us that we are all his precious daughters even when we don't feel like we are. He made her a part of the family, God's family. When she was most vulnerable, the healing hands of Jesus brought cleansing to her body and soul.

That word  -  he made her "well" -  is sozo in the Greek language. Her faith had made her whole, completely well.. I have added sozo to the word grace to create a name that defines my ministry.  We receive complete, whole-healing grace from God and we offer that complete whole-healing grace to each other.
